Health 2 Know - August 2007

Article extracted from OH! Health Malaysia

We all know that many people like the hype of owning an exquisite carpets especially when they have air-conditioned homes. This also goes with the comfort of walking on the soft texture and avoiding the cold hard floor.

But do you know that old carpeting is a haven for microbes, some of which are highly allergenic. Vacuuming carpet with a conventional portable cleaner blows a great deal of “house dust” into the air through an inefficient filter.

House dust consist of skin flakes, hair, food particles, pet dander, insect parts, insect faeces, and whatever was trapped indoors on shoes – animal waste, pollen, lead dust, pesticides, etc.

So if you are prepared to have carpets in your house, be also ready to have better vacuum cleaners as well.
Here is an interesting link I’ve found that gives a general guideline on how to choose a good vacuum cleaner

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial STD in the United States, and teenagers have the highest Chlamydia infection rate of any group. A woman usually receives the bacteria from a man during intercourse. She can carry it in her cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries for months or years and not know it. When it does flare up, it causes pain: pelvic pain, painful intercourse, and painful bowel movements. Often a woman will also have a fever and urethral discharge. Infertility is commonly an unavoidable result. A dangerous feature of Chlamydia is that a person can be infected for days or years and not be aware of it. (Pregnancy Center East)
