Health 2 Know - November 2008

Since today is Thanksgiving Day, I thought a tip about pumpkin pie would be the most suitable choice to all...

Do you know that the orange color of pumpkins is due to the high amounts of carotenoids, which have great anti-cancer properties?

Furthermore, pumpkins also contain lutein and ziazanthin, which can help promote eye health and keep macular degeneration at bay. Vitamin C and potassium are also an added health benefit, as well as fiber.

You can get your daily dose of pumpkin in other ways besides eating pie at every turn. Use it in stews or with cheese and butter, or in a flan desert, as they do in other parts of the world. Because pumpkins are usually only available around Thanksgiving and Halloween, you can use butternut squash the rest of the year.

By the way, also please make use of the seeds from your pumpkin by roasting them for a snack. Pumpkinseeds are high in zinc and essential fatty acids. Pumpkinseed oil contains good fats, which have been linked to healthier skin, an increase in energy, and improved mental function.

Be sure to roast your seeds at 300 degrees or less to protect the inherent good fats!

Happy Thanksgiving...

The Miracle of Cumin!

November 26th 2008 03:48
The health benefits of cumin for digestive disorders has been well known throughout history.

It can help to overcome these following problems:

Flatulence,
Indigestion,
Diarrhea,
Nausea,
Morning sickness, and
Atonic dyspepsia.

You can make some Cumin tea with 1 teaspoon cumin seeds to 1 glass water. Mix it well with salt and a teaspoon of coriander leaf juice.

Cumin is also said to help relieve symptoms of the common cold due to it’s antiseptic properties.

Again, you’ll want to boil the seeds in a tea and then drink a couple of times a day. If you also have a sore throat then try adding some dry ginger to help soothe it!

Top 10 cardio workout!

November 25th 2008 02:06
You're too busy to have the workout? Well, you must know that one of the most important things you can do for your weight loss goals is regular cardio exercise...

With so many choices out there one wonders which exercises are the most effective.

Below are 10 of the best cardio activities for blasting calories and getting in great shape, however, they are not particularly in order.

1. Running
2. Cross country skiing (Lookout the Pine trees and try not to hit on it!)
3. Bicycling
4. Speed walking
5. Swimming (If you're swim in the Pacific Ocean, then you should beware of the sharks lol)
6. Step Aerobics
7. Rowing (It's time for row, row, row your boat...)
8. Walking
9. Handball
10. Rock climbing

However, please do remember that the above 10 activities are only for your own reference. It is because we are all unique and, what works great for one person may not work as well for the next. I prefer bicycling but you may, say, prefer swimming.

Hence, you should find the one(s) that work the best for you and get into it!

Note: If you want to challenge yourself, then you can do it with blindfold lol (Just kidding!)

The Healthy and Cheap Snack!

November 22nd 2008 03:23
If you're a looking for a health-promoting snack, but you've no idea which types of snack you should be chosen, then I might have a suggestion for you here!

Enjoy a handful of mild nutty tasting sunflower seeds with their firm but tender texture to take care of your hunger and get a wealth of nutrition at the same time.

Sunflower seeds are the gift of the beautiful sunflower that has rays of petals emanating from its bright yellow, seed-studded center.

The flower produces grayish-green or black seeds encased in tear-dropped shaped gray or black shells that oftentimes feature black and white stripes. Since these seeds have a very high oil content, they are one of the main sources of polyunsaturated oil.

A handful of sunflower seeds will take care of your hunger, while also enhancing your health by supplying significant amounts of vitamin E, magnesium and selenium.

Note: Since you're eating the sunflower seeds, then would you mind to sing the "Little Sunflower Song" with me?

Beware of the Aluminium!

November 20th 2008 01:08
According to the current research, it has shown that more than half the cookware on the market today is made from aluminum. This is most likely because aluminum is a good conductor of heat and used frequently with non-stick pots and pans.

Below here are some tips to you should follow, especially if you're dealing with the aluminium stuffs:

1. You should not store highly acidic or salty foods in aluminum cookware and foods. Those foods, such astomato sauce or citrus fruits that are in contact with cookware for a long period of time will absorb aluminum.

2. When storing acidic or salty foods, Aluminum foil should be avoided as well.

3. It is unlikely that significant amounts of aluminum are released from aluminum cookware and, thus, cooking in aluminum is not considered dangerous.

4. It is important to make sure the surface of the cookware is undamaged and, if it is, throw it away.

The 5 Essential Health Tips - Part 1

November 15th 2008 18:57
Guys, I used to remember an Arabian Proverb that sounds like this, "He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything!" That's why our health is more valuable than any other things, and once you've loss it, then you will be regretted for sure...

Ok, below here are another ten great health tips that you should peeking with lol

1. I like to move it, move it!
Ok, I know this sounds like a little bit "Madagascar" here, but moving your body will make you healthy! Don't say that you didn't have time for it, as you can climb the stairs instead of using escalators or elevators; Walk your dog and collect the poo in the garden, chase your kids; toss balls with friends or even spending a couple of hours to mow the lawn (For the lawn moving, you need to have patience with it lol). Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. As a result, move more and don't forget to shake your bon bon...lol

2. Cut Off the Fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. If you want a slimmer and sexy body, then remember not to feast yourself with these foods!

3. It's Time to quit smoking
The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers. By th way, if you keep smoking, then would you mind to show off your teeth that full with tartar? lol

4. Remember to reduce stress
Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. If you don't mind, you can buy a stress ball and release your tension on it!

5. Protect Yourself from Pollution
If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. I loved the song, 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants…. Oh my god, please spare me, as I can't hold on anymore with the pollution lol

Ok, guys. Watch out for the Part 2
