About Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS)

September 23rd 2006 00:00
By now you could be wondering what is SJS... and a picture speaks more than a thousand words, you could by now, already know what it is from the pictures you saw.

Steven Johnson Syndrome, my dad likes to call the short form, is a potentially deadly skin disease that usually results from a drug reaction.

Some also termed it as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), which is actually more severe than SJS.

These skin disease can cause massive pain, suffering and anxiety. Nevertheless early detection and initation of teatment CAN make a big difference to the seriousness of the disease as this can stop any secondary infections.

Personally what my family went through was we didn't know it was SJS, as my mother has been taking various medication for 20 years and no side effects happen. When it started to outbreak some panel doctors even thought that it was German Measles, and the fact was... it wasn't at all... though early symptoms do look a little like that. Thank God that we could still find a skin specialist on time before it goes to a point of no return... which will cause dealth.
