In Daily History site I have mentioned about the history of Candy Cane, and many would have wondered how it can be made. Well I found a neat website for teachers that gives out the recipes to teach the kids how to make them.
Candy Cane Recipe
This is a great project to do with children.
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
4 drops oil of peppermint or other flavoring
4 drops red or green food coloring
Grease a hard surface.
Simmer the sugar with the corn syrup, water and cream of tartar until the mix reaches a soft crack stage or about 280 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from the heat and add the flavouring.
Divide the syrup in half. Add food colouring to one half; pour out separately onto the greased surfaces. Cool for 1 to 2 minutes. Pull each half separately; roll into 1/2" thick ropes. Twist coloured batch around the white batch pulling until the colours adhere. Cut with scissors into 6" long lengths; bend to crook one end.
NOTE: You can find Wintergreen or oil of cinnamon to use as a flavouring. Work quickly to form candy canes or you can form knots.

Wow, I can picture those 'knots' already *laughs* I'm going to give it a go.
We're having lots of rain and it looks like it's set in for a beautiful cool Christmas ... good for me as I have many new books to read... however, that means no beach, so inbetween rounds of Monopoly ('Dad's' Christmas present from the children) ... this looks like more fun than you can poke a stick (or cane) at... *lol*
I hope your Christmas is very Merry Jessica and that you enjoy all the peace, love and joy that the season can offer.
Lots of love from me...

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their Christmas day with family and friends!
Katyzzz,
I only found this recipe after I bought 35 mini candy canes for MYR13.90.
So this recipe will be next year!
Physiotherapy,
Do let me know how your little cousins react when you challenge them with this recipe!
My dear Lilla,
It's such a wonderful idea lazing off with books. I haven't been able to do that lately hence the writing traffic has gone down...
But you are right it'll be more fun with the candy canes where you can still poke without a stick (or cane) hahaha... Let me know the outcome of your test round. ^_^
Oh yes katyzzz and Lilla, I have sent you both Christmas presents and I hope they will arrive to your mailboxes and not lost in the post office!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Blessings
Jessicca
