High blood pressure, like many other health problems is one of the things that comes with living in modern times. We all try to fit far too much into our lives; rushing out to our jobs in a morning, shopping for the family at lunch time, rushing back at tea time to make a decent meal. It all plays havoc with our blood pressure and unless we make some kind of change then in the end our health will suffer.
Because most people discover they have a problem when they visit their doctor, the usual way of treating the condition is to take the prescribed medication. But what alternatives are there if you’d rather take a different approach? Are there actually things you can do yourself to help matters?
One of the most important things you can do is to start doing some form of exercise. Try walking to work instead of using the car or perhaps take a walk in your lunch break instead. Visit the countryside at the weekend instead of sitting at the computer for hours on end or take out a membership at a local gym; anything that you enjoy that will get your body moving.
Try using a hot tub to help reduce your stress levels, help you lose weight and reduce your blood pressure at the same time. Hot tubs have been recognised as a successful way of helping people with high blood pressure for a number of years and the guys over at Vita Spa recently discussed these with ourselves. The warm water helps to dilate the blood vessels which in turn increases the flow of blood around the body and reduces the pressure
Diet should also be another area to look at. Try to eat less high fat food, less sugar and less meat whilst increasing your fruit and veg intake to at least 5 a day. Measures like this should be successful in reducing your blood pressure in most cases.
