Home healthy environment – as important to health as anything else
August 13th 2007 05:44
Yoga, gym, SPA, supplements, wellness products… you name it; the industry has it. The trend wellness among the generation these days is so important that almost every single person / company will have something to offer you that you can shed off those pounds or control your illness condition, to create a healthier you so to stay alive.
Recently I read an interesting article that reminds all of us that when our bodies are clean and healthy, the place we stay is equally important to maintain “healthy” so that we all will not keep returning to square one, falling sick and ended up purchasing even more supplements to keep us healthy and alive.
OH! Malaysia health magazine has done a good job pointing this issue to us, and through its article, it actually reminded us that we are actually living in a very polluted environment and sometimes (perhaps most of the time), illness starts from the environment around you.
The beauty of nature is its ability to restore balance and correct any contamination. Nature is intelligent indeed, because we have the wind that blows and dilutes the concentrated contaminants produced from motoring exhaust and industrial smoke; rainfall removes gases and aerosols from the air and at once we have fresher air after a downpour. Plans and trees form green lungs that exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen, and lightning neutralizes many gases in the atmosphere.
But how about indoors? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), indoor air pollution is responsible for more deaths worldwide than outdoor air, even in the most contaminated cities. (OH! Health Malaysia)
In the modern architecture designs, there may be a lot of designs that works with nature’s wind outside, but when it comes to inside, not every place allows nature to play its part in its natural healing capability, especially high-rise residential areas.
Let’s see what we have for indoor air pollution:
Aha… I know what you are thinking… Dust mites, mould and pollen are only part of the problem – the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. But really, the air in our homes is likely to contain hazardous chemical contaminants.
The 3 categories of indoor air pollutants:
Biological
Refers to living things like airborne bacteria or by-products of living things such as dust mite droppings.
Particulate pollutants
Include tiny pieces of fly ash (fine particles of ash, dust and soot), asbestos or common dust
Gaseous contaminant
Could be the benzene that seeps out of paint thinner.
However all is not lost. By being more careful about what we bring into our homes and committing to a cleaning and maintenance regime, all of us can breath easier at the comfort of our homes.
The next post will be the simple list of what we can do to have a healthier house. Stay tuned!

I actually had a friend who's home is near to this clean, that is before they had a baby in home recently. I am not so sure how the clean home will become, especially with the white furniture (Zen look), but I am sure that the couple will continue to do their best to maintain it. ^_^
It's truly great to see you here. Have a blessed day!
