The Laws of Dieting Success: Just Eat
November 27th 2006 09:18
Ah! The modern urban life… while we tend to expect that our computers can do a lot of work for us, such as processing that daily administrative work, we expect our PCs could play music or even download files at the same time.
Yet, daily we are also being expected by superiors that we can do the same as our PCs do – multi-tasking. And because of the multitasking insanity of our lives, the market creates a culture of conveniences. You can eat while you do your work, on the go; you name it – from snack chips to even soup – packed in containers that fit neatly into car cup holders.
But the actual fact that what is best for you: Whenever you eat, that should be all you do. This is quite a taken aback for workaholics yet it is true. When we work and eat at the same time, we simple just eat too much when we don’t focus on our food. In a 2001 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women ate about 50 calories more at lunch when they listen to a book on tape than when they ate alone with no distraction.
A Finnish study also found out that only 20% of subjects at because they were hungry; some noshed to have something to do while reading or watching TV.
So how do you overcome this?
Be done with it
It’s hard enough to know when to stop eating – after you’ve eaten it takes 15 minutes for your brain to register fullness. But it’s even harder when you’re stuck in traffic with a bag of potato chips.
Instead of cleaning out the bag, rate your hunger. At 0 you a re ravenous; at 10 you’ve hit the post-Thanksgiving balloon phase.
Eat slowly and give your body enough time to digest before deciding you are only at 3. You’re “done” when you hit 5 or 6.
So next time when you think you’re going to grab something on for a long journey drive or some popcorns for the movie, probably you have to think again and rate your hunger before you start munching off… this is true that I used to have a bag of chips or low fat cereal munchies with me whenever I do my work, rushing assignment or even writing. You may think you are hungry but before you know it, you realised that your stomach is so stuffed you don’t comfortable in your sitting position.

"Storms! Go to Brissie.... now!"
Drum... drum... drum...
I know the heat of Brissie. It's really dry but when I was in Sydney in 2003 it was nothing but cold, rain and hailstorm... guess the heat has strike Brissie again. One of my friends in Brissie always get sick during Summer, and I believe she's down again with all the flu.

LOL....
The monsoon here is really giving people a lot of trouble travelling. I am so glad that I stay rather near (but not too near) to my working office.

I gotta ask, Jessicca... where are you?

The tropical country were 4 seasons are no where to be found... but we get lots of sunshine and lots of rain, which is the draught and the monsoon.
I have to return for my family, who are situated here.
Toowoomba is a lovely place. I am saving up to return to Toowoomba again, those spring blossoms always mesmerize me. Ah... the garden city of Toowoomba... LOL...

Congrats on your great post again. But... is there a grammar mistake at the end of the post?
I agree with you totally about munching and doing assignments. You just feel that urge to much something while you scratch your head to write your thesis.
Look forward for more post like these. And you know what? Usually when I saw those weight loss advertisement about loosing weight in the most natural way, you still ended up seeing a webpage of herbal medication or suppliments instead of proper and natural way to loose weight like proper food and exercise.

Yes I am here in Kuala Lumpur now and the count down for the Visit Malaysia year is going to start in 1 DEC. I better start compiling all the news and information, especially places to eat and visit for everyone to check it out.
I am also planning to hike Mount Kinabalu (tallest in Malaysia and South East Asia) somewhere middle of next year, if I get the schedule and get time off from work.

Truly great to see you here again!
Yeah the "good old days" when we were all students...
And in fact, you are right on the advertisements on weight loss. Nothing much about exercise and more on health products.
If you really want those tracking, instead of paying into the Internet I guess a real trainer to keep track on you perhaps on the first few months would be more practical.

Good post. I'm guilty of multi-tasking and doing other things while I eat. Then I realise far too late that I've eaten way too much.

Great of you to stop by! You have made my day. ^_^
Yes, I believe we all are guilty of that. And we can't just turn into a new leaf... so I guess it is a gradual process to change our eating habits then.
I still multi-task pretty frequent, especially when things need to be done and stomach growling at the same time. LOL...
