Ouch! My ovary hurts!

October 20th 2006 06:15

This is a good article that I came across today and realised that whenever I “do my business” these days there’d a sharp pain in my mid lower AB. I always wondered why it occurred.

I hope the article below will able to help you to know more about this pain, and though doctors did specify there isn’t a real remedy nor a perfect way to prevent it, but it is still better than not knowing the cause of it.

Mittelschmertz
Article extracted from Health Today magazine

Your’re going about your business when a sudden, sharp pain stabs your lower abdomen. You think: It’s on the left side, so it can’t be appendicitis. Nor is ti dysmenorrhea – you just had your menses two weeks ago.

What is it?
It’s mittelschmertz, the German term for “middle pain,” so called because it occurs during the middle of tour menstrual cycle. It happens monthly when follicular cyst in your ovary burst to release a mature egg during ovulation.

What to do when it happens?
If the pain is disruptive, take an over-the-counter pain killer.

How to prevent it happen?
You can’t really prevent it. But if the pain is excruciating, oral contraceptive pills can be prescribed to stop ovulation altogether.

Hi,
I think I suffer from this problem. Every month around 7-8 days after my menses end, I will have this throbbing pain on my left waist. It will last about a day or two and usually, I will feel all tired and 'lifeless'. I can't do much about it coz no matter what supplement I tried, it's still the same every month. And I will have quite alot of discharge too. Guess it's ovulation time for me... and suffering time for me..

Hi Ess Kay,

Some actually has something to do with the hormones if you have trobbling paid during PMS, or even during ovulation. I think I read an article about it somewhere, if I find it again I'll let you know.

And for the discharges, you need to know what sort of discharge you are having, if it is more transparent it is pretty ok, but when it starts to turn white / yellowish white or even with smell, that means your virgina might be infected with bacteria. Using proper feminine wash is important and not all sorts of feminine wash will reduce this problem. Some needs a lower pH and some needs a more balanced pH.

In the Chinese saying when you have too much discharge it means your uterus is kind of weak. Avoid taking cold stuffs (cold beverages, chilled fruits, ice-cream, etc) for about a month, along with proper hygine treatment, and see whether you have any improvements or not.

Hope this helps

Hi Jessicca,

TQ for the info. Nope, my discharge are not infections. It's just alot and watery. I've been taking Bai Feng Wan and Ba Zhen soup. My conditions has improved alot actually but the throbbing pain every month is still there. Might be hormonal problem

Thanx!

Hi Jessicca

I just discovered this post and it's very reassuring. I have that pain every month and it's something that I've never asked my gynaecologist about, so it's good to learn more about it. The comments have been helpful too as I often feel tired and lifeless as Ess Kay said.

On the other hand, it is handy and reassuring to know when I'm ovulating (I have polycystic ovary syndrome), so it's good to know that it is actually happening.

Thank-you,

Tracy

Hi Ess Kay,

In that case it could be true that you have a hormone issue that might have passed down through genetics.

I have a colleague who has been having this problem since puberty and even after she's a mom of two she still has that throbbing pain, though it has lessen.

You could ask the doctor to prescribe you some pain killer, but do only take it when the pain is just too unbearable.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Hi Tracy,

Glad that you find this information useful. ^_^

I too used to have that pain but recently less. I suppose regular exercise, stomach crunching, and sometimes with essence of chicken helps. I suppose most importantly I seldom eat chilled icy food and fruits that keeps my pain at bay.

Thank you so much for dropping by. ^_^

Have a blessed day
