December 15th 2008 04:28
Today is the third chapter and I would like to discuss the history of phobia and the influences of phobia in the past…

For your information, allusions are being made to phobias in later European writings but when it’s come to the Middle Ages, they were often regarded as manifestations of demonic activity (Yep, you didn’t read it wrongly, it always being considered as a “Demonic activity” in the Middle Ages!)

Although some phobias have always occurred, such as animal phobias and height phobias, and others specific diseases or illnesses such as plague, syphilis and rabies, were once more common. These diseases were major killers in the past, and most of the people were afraid of them.

Let’s take an example, the Black Death, which is famous for one of the deadliest pandemics in human history, which has been reaped away at least 75 million people in 1400, has become one of the dread phobias to general population that living in the era!

In the 18th and 19th centuries, disorders of mind were once more returned to the realms of medicine and science. Many science researches and attempts were made to study and explain the nature and development of phobias and the best ways to treat it! Although there are several misconceptions were born at this time but it’s continuing in-depth study of phobias throughout the 20th century and until nowadays…
