Taking Care Your Elder Parents are Your Duty!

January 18th 2009 06:23
We born and rose by our parents. It’s our responsibility to take care of them when they are getting older. However, the task can be very tough, if we didn’t do any preparation here!

Let’s take an example, Finn, my colleague cum best friend, was having some troubles of taking care his own parents. For your information, he is now living in a 3-storey house. Finn is a lucky man, as he married a lovely wife, Stephanie and having three adorable children: Christopher, Giselle and Desmond. Beside that, Finn’s father and Stephanie’s mother is living under the same roof with them!

It seems like a very happy family and you might assume that it can be happily ever after…Well, sometimes there are many unpredictable things can be happened in life! Finn’s father was suddenly having heart attack 9 months ago. Although he managed to survive from the incident, but he is unable to walk again due to the side effect of heart attack – stroke! Since then, Finn was quite upset with his father health condition. He knew that it’s time to show the sincerity to his father, although his father insists that his is fine with current condition.

After a consideration and discussion with Stephanie, Finn decided to install a home elevator inside their house. The only problem was there are many types of home elevators and he has no ideas which one is the suitable one!

So, he has giving me a call and ask for my opinion. I’d given him some suggestion that he should choose according to his father need and the price that he can afford with! Two weeks later, I received a call from Finn again. He told me that he has installed the “National Wheel-O-Vator”, where this home elevator allows his father to go up and down to the second floor safely.

I must admit that Finn is a very filial son, as despite of installed the home elevator, he’d also bought two electric scooters for his father and his mother-in-law. Now, both of them can drive the electrical scooters all over the neighborhood whenever they want!

Good one Finn - that is one great story but probably very rare. Not many people have the opportunity to house elder parents. My grandmother and grandfather are both in aged care facilities. Would love to have them but my place is way too small.

I keep threatening my mum that as soon as she is old enough she is straight off to an old people's home. She does not find it funny

Wilson, it is just so wonderful to hear of a case such as this. Your friend is truly a wonderfully generous person, and it's great that he not only had the resources but was prepared to accept his responsibilities. A very uplifting account.

That's a great story, Wilson. The scooters not only shows that Finn cares about them but that he cares that they have fun too!

Jason: Yeah, that's why I called Finn the "Filial" Man! Oh my god, you've been a bad boy here, Jason. Remember that there's a thing called "Karma"...

Katyzzz: Honestly, I think we should all learn from Finn, as this is our responsibility to take care our parents.

Janet: Yeah, Finn said with the scooters, his father and mother-in-law can have more enjoyable moment wandering all around the city, instead of spending all day long sitting at home...
