The Fermented Soy Food and Its Benefit – Part 1

May 25th 2009 14:54
Guys, today’s I was very excited, as I have the chance to taste a very strange and unfamiliar food, which is less likely to be found at the local markets, but you can try your luck at the Asian foods markets!

Well, the food that I’m talking about here is “Pickled tofu”, which is also known as “fermented tofu”. You must be wondered, “What’s the different of this pickled tofu with others?” Well, it surely has a big different here.

First of all, most of the tofu that being sold in markets are mostly in moist, cake-like form. This pickled tofu is consists of dried tofu in cube-shaped, fermented and soaked in a unique mixture of whole rice, bean paste and minced chilies.

It’s a very tasty fermented food, where is totally a great addition to any types of soups! Trust me, you’re going to love this unique flavor.

It's always interesting and enjoyable to introduce different flavours and taste sensations to soup, I'm cooking a lot of them lately, with the right base and vegetables added soups are very good for you and can be easy on the digestion.

Plus it's starting to get quite cold some days here. Always a good time for soup

I actually wondered whether it is called "Fu Yuu" in Cantonese.... It does look like it and yes, "Fu Yuu"... or some called "Kimchi Tofu".

It can even be fried with green vegetables.

Hi Wilson,
Sounds sublime! I love regular tofu so will keep an eye out for this (though have a feeling it might be hard to come by in Perth... but I'll check the Asian supermarkets).

Cheers,
Carmen

Hi Carmen, I bet you have a very healthy skin, as tofu is to be known to rejuvenate and peel off the old dead skin! Hopefully, you'll be able to find it.
