February 10th 2009 06:31
Ok, for those of you that love Strawberries, I've some new important facts about it...

Who can deny that Strawberry is one of the most delicious fruits in this world? Beside of its cute appearances, it has more benefits you should know here!

For you information, Strawberries themselves have a range of nutrients, with vitamin C heading the group. Beside that, they also contain significant levels of phytonutrients and antioxidants, which fight free radicals (Thus, it's one of the tough cancer fighter as well! )

Do you know that the antioxidant properties is the main causes that makes the strawberry bright red in color? (I used to put a Strawberry on my nose and pretended I'm a clown with big red nose while I'm still a child! lol)

The Strawberries also to be known have the following nutrients:

Vitamin K,
Manganese,
Folic acid,
Potassium,
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2),
Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5 ),
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6 ),
Copper,
Magnesium, and
Omega-3 fatty acids!

By the way, I was wondering why it's given the name as "Strawberries"? If anyone of you here know the answer, then please feel free to leave me a comment...

PS: Don't tell me that Strawberry got its name, because its use a "Straw" to suck the nutrients from the soil! lol

I never knew how good one of my favourite foods is - thanks Wilson and there are 2 answers to your question.

Originally they were called "strewberries", because they were "strewn" across the ground. "Strew" means throw. The name eventually evolved into "strawberries".

The name changed from strewberries to straw berries when people started growing them in straw, the straw usually from a stable with manure in it straw also helps to keep the ground warm whilst growing and fertilises the yummy things
