The Untold Benefits of the Carrot!

December 23rd 2008 07:58
Do you know that carrots are an excellent source of antioxidant compounds, and the richest vegetable source of the pro-vitamin A carotenes?

The carrots' antioxidant compounds will help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer and also promote good vision, especially night vision.

The Beta-carotene helps to protect vision, especially night vision. After beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the liver, it travels to the retina where it is transformed into rhodopsin, a purple pigment that is necessary for night-vision. (If you want to avoid the night blindness, then you should consume more carrots!)

Beta-carotene's powerful antioxidant actions help provide protection against macular degeneration and the development of senile cataracts, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.

PS: Now, you know why the rabbits didn't have any night blindness! lol

Hey Wilson, I just went to your Steven Johnson Syndrome site. Your poor mum! I wish all the best for her recovery. I clicked all of the ads and made a donation, it's only small but it was all I could afford. I hope it helps a bit. I will keep going back to the site and clicking on the ads and I'll ask my friends to do the same.

I hope everyone will do a little to contribute.

What an horrific disease. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
