What will happen, if You’re Lacking With Vitamin D?

July 26th 2009 12:34
Doctors or physicians have told us that we must intake multiple types of vitamins and mineral resources everyday!

Based on the latest health survey, there is less than 25 percent of the United States’ citizens who taking the vitamins as recommended by the USDA! The even shocking news was there is more than 80 percent of elder citizens are at least lack with one or more vitamin!

Did you know that when you’re lacking with Vitamin D, you might have the chance of getting affected with Osteoporosis? Yep, most people thought that Osteoporosis is caused by the Calcium deficiency, but they didn’t know it has something to do with the Vitamin D deficiency as well!

Normally, Vitamin D can be produced naturally in the body through the exposing under sunlight. Or, you can get it from the dietary sources, such as eggs, fortified milk or cod liver oil.

The lacking of Vitamin D can weaken the bones, and leading to fractures. This problem is mostly happened in post-menopausal women. Hence, doctors are usually recommended women to consume Vitamin D tablets regularly to avoid the Vitamin D deficiency problem!

When I was a bub (!) most mothers were advised to put their babies out in the sunlight for 20 minutes a day. It was recommended for Vitamin D. Then came the scare about "sun" being harmful and no-one did that anymore.

Maybe they were right and if a mother chose a point of the day where the sun was reasonably weak, it would be a really good thing to still do.

Well done, Wilson. But, did you know old men can get the disease too and a fracture for them can have more serious consequences than for a woman. They need to know. The sun, 10 mins to 1/2 hour daily outstrips all other sources of Vitamin D, providing it far more effectively than in either food or tablets.

If you live somewhere where the sun is not abundant, this could be a problem.

Wilson,

This is a wonderful simple and straight forward article about warnings when you lack of Vit D.

Thank you so much for reminding all of us.

I have a Vitamin D deficiency. I got tested earlier this year and my levels of Vitamin D were 7 (I forget the unit), when they should've been 30. Since then, the rest of my immediate family has been tested and we all have Vitamin D deficiencies.

My doctor said that all of his Indian patients have had Vitamin D deficiencies, and my relatives in Ohio (who are all prominent doctors) also agree with this.

Two things that they have recommended are either daily vitamins, or cereal. My grandmother ate cereal every single day for breakfast and she was the only person in my family (in her generation) who didn't have a Vitamin D deficiency.

Personally, I think it has to do with the climate difference, since we're used to getting WAY more sun and a much hotter temperature.

Some of the effects that taking Vitamin D have had on me (as a teenager) were that my muscles aren't constantly sore anymore (they used to get sore for two days with even the smallest workout), and less fatigue in general. It actually helped A LOT in daily life and I suggest that you at least ask your doctor if your muscles get sore a lot.

Janet, isn't the old method is the most practical method, even though in this advent 21st century?

WoW, Katyzzz. Thanks for the elaboration. I thought the sunshine won't be a major problem, if we're living in the southern Australia, such as Perth!

My pleasure, Jessicca.

Fremen, thanks for sharing your story with us. That's why we should pay attention with our daily diet, as it's a very crucial factors, if we want to stay healthy! Fremen, if you're not allergy with fish, then you might want to try out the fish oil.

Cool - I need an excuse to get out in the sun a bit more. Of course with winter at the moment it is less appealing but I do like my walks in the sun.

I was actually also looking at vitamins the other day and am thinking of a regular multivitamin so I can get a bit of everything.

Jason, since you're working in the dark cinema room, it's better to spend some time getting touch with the environment, maybe a sunbath will refresh your mind a little bit!

I've heard before that having enough vitamin D was essential to be able to absorb calcium efficiently. That has so many effects on the body. Good post!
