World AIDS Day – Show Some Support to The Unfortunate!

December 1st 2008 00:01
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS or also known as UNAIDS has been declared 1st December as the “World AIDS Day” since 1988.

According to the UNAIDS recently report, there are now over 35 million people living with HIV, including 2.8 million children! During 2007, there are 2.5 million people became infected with the HIV virus and around half of the people who become infected with HIV are killed by AIDS before they reached 35!

For those that still blurb about HIV and AIDS, then you should take a few minutes and read on the following statements…

The meaning of the acronym HIV

H is for Human, because the viruses infect humans.
I is for Immunodeficiency, because the virus attacks the body’s immune system, weakening it so that it cannot fight other deadly diseases.
V is for Virus, as this virus belongs to a group known as retroviruses.

The meaning of the acronym AIDS

A is for Acquired, which it means a person gets HIV from another infected person.
I is for Immune referring to the body’s defense system which protects the body from diseases.

HIV can be transmitted by:

Direct contact with infected blood.
