The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has just proposed a new suggestion, which they want all the U.S. nitrogen dioxide to be adjusted into an hour NO2 standard.
They pointed out that this method would help to reduce the respiratory illnesses amongst the public.
Lisa P.Jackson, the EPA Administrator mentioned that they have done many research about the effect of NO2 to the human beings. They discovered that if a person is exposed with high concentration NO2 for more than an hour, he/she might have the chance of getting assorted respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, lung cancer and so on.
By the continuously efforts from EPA, the annual NO2 concentrations across the U.S. have been slightly decreased from the 53 parts per billion (ppb) in 1971 to 15 ppb in 2009! Honestly, it’s a very good achievement.
